What we fund
Does the evidence say it works, and can we show that it did?
Fig. 02Five funded programmes, each awarded against the same evidence standard.
Overview
We fund only interventions meeting defined evidence standards. Approved providers must demonstrate training in structured, sequential, explicit phonics instruction, submit progress monitoring data on validated measures, and file quarterly outcome reports. Continued partnership depends on documented student improvement.
Awards are made on student need and family circumstance, never ability to pay. We use a sliding scale under which families contribute according to means, with full scholarships for those in greatest hardship. No child meeting eligibility criteria is denied support because of cost.
Tutoring Scholarships — one-to-one structured literacy instruction with vetted specialists.
Diagnostic Evaluation Grants — psychoeducational and reading assessment through licensed diagnosticians.
Small Group Intervention Support — funded enrolment in evidence-based group reading programmes.
Parent Education Workshops — free monthly workshops for families, hosted with libraries and community centres.
Teacher Professional Development Grants — structured literacy training for classroom teachers.
We fund proven reading intervention for children whose families cannot afford it — in Kansas City, Blue Springs, Independence, and surrounding communities.
